Cytologic Findings of Breast Mucinous Carcinoma with Micropapillary Pattern: Report of A Case and Literature Review

چکیده
Mucinous lesions of the breast represent a broad spectrum of entities, which may pose a diagnostic challenge on fine-needle aspiration cytology. Mucinous carcinomas are so bland cytologically that they may be misdiagnosed as benign lesions, especially in cellpoor samples with ample mucin [1]. Assessment of cytologic details in conjunction with the radiological and clinical findings leads to a more accurate diagnosis. In addition, micropapillary carcinoma of the breast is known for the high risk of lymphatic invasion and metastasis. Wai-Kuen Ng has suggested a new subtype of mucinous carcinoma, morphologically equivalent to a mucinous counterpart of micropapillary carcinoma, in a large review series [2]. A recent study by Ranade et al. [3] has described that pure mucinous breast carcinoma with a micropapillary pattern were more frequently associated with nodal disease [3]. Thus prompt axillary staging is recommended in these patients. Herein we present a case of mucinous carcinoma with micropapillary pattern, demonstrating the cytologic and histologic features that warrant special attention.

Mucinous Carcinoma of the Breast with Neuroendocrine Differentiation
Mucinous carcinoma of the breast is a well-differentiated type of adenocarcinoma accounting for 2-5% of all breast cancers. Pure mucinous carcinoma of the breast has a favorable prognosis, usually seen in post-menopausal women. Neuroendocrine differentiation has been described in both in-situ and infiltrating breast cancers .Mucinous carcinomas of the breast appear to have the greatest associat...
متن کاملPrognostic Significance of a Micropapillary Pattern in Pure Mucinous Carcinoma of the Breast: Comparative Analysis with Micropapillary Carcinoma
BACKGROUND Mucinous carcinoma of the breast is an indolent tumors with a favorable prognosis; however, micropapillary features tend to lead to aggressive behavior. Thus, mucinous carcinoma and micropapillary carcinoma exhibit contrasting biologic behaviors. Here, we review invasive mucinous carcinoma with a focus on micropapillary features and correlations with clinicopathological factors. ME...
متن کاملPrimary Fibrosarcoma of Breast: A Case Report and Review of Literature
While carcinoma of breast is common condition, stromal sarcomas are rare tumors of breast, amongst which fibrosarcoma accounts for 16% of cases. Only a few case reports are available in the international literature. We report a case of fibrosarcoma of breast, which presented as an un-encapsulated mass in the right breast of a 60-year-old female. This case was diagnosed after exclusion of all po...

Lymphoepithelial - like carcinoma, is rarely recognized in the urinary bladder and less commonly occurs with papillary transitional cell carcinoma i.e. mixed pattern. Also, less uncommon is the occurrence of carcinoma in situ changes in the adjacent urothelium of these tumors. Here, a case of lymphoepithelial – like carcinoma and papillary transitional cell carcinoma associated with carci...
متن کاملMyoepithelial carcinoma with contralateral invasive micropapillary carcinoma of the breast
Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a rare benign tumor composed of myoepithelial cells (MECs) which are located beneath the epithelial cells of exocrine glands, especially in breast and salivary glands. These tumor cells show biphasic proliferation of epithelial and MECs. Malignant AME is characterized by distant metastasis, local recurrence, cytologic atypia, high mitotic activity and infiltrating t...
